President's Report
Happy November, everyone!
I hope everyone enjoyed a safe and happy Halloween!
This month, I’m excited to celebrate our October community effort, share an update on the holiday social, look ahead to the board’s plans for next year, and remind everyone of the support available during the busy season.
A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who made sandwiches or ensured we had supplies in October to help community members in need! A special shout-out to Laurel Highlands for making the trip to participate. Above all, thank you to Chef Evalyn for opening her facility and working with the school to make this event possible; without her support, it may not have happened. This simple act of kindness was greatly appreciated by the community, and I have received numerous commendations for our work in the amazing city we call home. What a wonderful example of coming together for our community!
Looking ahead, our holiday social will be moved back into December. We have received no nominations and are still looking for an event space. I am exploring a couple of spaces and would love to hear your venue ideas!
Next year, the board will adopt a standard of ethics to protect our organization and support its continued work. This is an important step forward for our organization. As professionals, we share a responsibility to uphold that standard together. National already has standards in place, and it has been suggested that we adopt a similar approach that follows the rules set forth by Pennsylvania.
As we all get busier heading into the end of the year, let’s remember: we are not alone! Stress can build during this busy season, and help is available if you need it—from a fellow chef, family, or the 988 helpline.

Thank You!
We had a terrific turnout for this event. We produced 500 sandwich meals in 1 hour and 12 minutes, including setup and teardown. Amazing! The Pittsburgh Police distributed the boxes to all 5 zones in Pittsburgh. Special thanks to Chef Evelyn Sussman and A.W. Beattie Career Center for coordinating this special event.
